It is always good to reevaluate your position to identify any lapses in your plan or resources. What will you add to your supplies this year to improve your self sufficiency? It helps to plan ahead especially if you are working with a tight budget. This can allow you to buy a major piece of equipment when you might think it is not possible. By thinking ahead to the end of the year and deciding what you want to add to your supplies or resources this year, you will improve your situation rather than let it stagnate or deteriorate.
It does not matter how much you decide to spend on items this year. Every thing you get increases your position. You may buy several things or just one but it is important that you constantly work toward some goal that you have set for the future. It may be a two week supply of food or a small garden. It might be the ability to can your own vegetables or produce your own power in an emergency. This is your life and you need to set the standards for what you expect from yourself. In the end you are responsible for the position you may find yourself in. The ability to come through it safe and happy is mostly up to you. The following are some of the things you may want to think about as you decide how to proceed.
To become more food secure you don’t need to buy two years worth of food all at once and at a time when you can ill afford to. All you need to do is increase your excess food reserve by buying a few extra cans or packages of food every week and add to your supplies over time. You may want to buy some plastic buckets to store some of your food in to keep it fresh and rodent free.
Regardless of where you live it does not take a lot of space to buy and store some food production essentials. These may be things you can use now or later. Things such as seeds, canning supplies or garden tools are items you can slowly accumulate over time to increase your production and storage capabilities.
It is never a bad time to learn to barter. You can locate a barter group near you and identify certain items that are easily tradable now or in the future if supplies are cut off for some reason. Having a barter connection will provide a backdoor to get what you may need if things take a turn for the worse. Now is a good time to store extra barter supplies while they are easily assessable in the market place.
Energy makes the world go round. It is difficult to live in modern society without some form of energy to make life easier. What type of energy do you rely on the most and how can you store some to insure an available supply if the economy gets worse or a disaster strikes? It may be as simple as storing a few cans of gasoline in your garage in the event you cannot buy any. It may be the purchase of a few solar panels, a few deep cycle batteries and a power inverter to insure you can maintain refrigeration and minimal lighting during an extended power outage. It may be a wood stove and supply of wood to insure you can keep your family warm if the power is out for an extended time in winter weather.
Water is a vital element and one that is easily lost during some type of disaster. It may be wise to at least have a water filter to produce clean water in an emergency. You may be able to drill a well or develop a water source independent of the local water authority. You may want to have water storage containers on hand to store sufficient amounts for long durations.
Clothing is something many people think little of until they need it and cannot get anything. It is more of a necessity in winter than in warmer climates or locations. The economic situation today and the constant inflation could impact your ability to get clothing in the future. If you loose your job or your paycheck just does not keep up with rising prices you may find yourself in want of clothing you cannot get. Do you have the equipment or knowledge to repair your clothing to make it last longer? Do you have the means to make clothing from scratch? It is not that difficult to buy a few extra things now and store them for future use to insure you have what you need in the event of future hardship.
What will you do if you suddenly lose your primary shelter? What will you do if the current economic situation gets much worse and you need to maintain your current shelter with the supplies you have on hand? Most people give little thought to this type of scenario. Having a backup shelter of some type or a plan to get to another shelter may be necessary at some point. Having a few repair supplies to fix a broken window or a leaky roof may be lifesaving in a disaster.
What would you do if your vehicle suddenly stopped working along with everyone else’s? What would you do if energy supplies were suddenly curtailed or cut off completely? Having an alternate transportation system may be necessary depending on your situation. A bike, a boat or canoe or some type of alternate energy source for your vehicle will give you something to fall back on when the time comes. It may be a supply of fuel or something like a wood gas producer that you decide is best for your situation.
The current economic situation will likely get worse before it gets any better. If you suddenly lose your primary source of income what will you do? It is always good to have some money set aside for such circumstances but that may not be enough. Do you have an alternate plan to make some money? Do you have special equipment you can use to earn money? Do you have skills you can utilize to start your own side business? A little time and thought put into this now can pay big dividends in the future if it is ever needed.
When the economy gets bad, the security situation deteriorates as well. It is good to know the police will come when called but will they get there in time to actually help you? It is always good to have your own security plan to protect your family until help arrives. It may be as simple as a can of bear repellant or something more potent such as a gun. If you have a weapon you may lay in extra bullets or cleaning supplies. There is always something you can add to your supplies to improve your chances of survival when things go wrong.
These are just some of the things you may want to consider. It is always helpful to sit down and think about your future wants and list the items you may need to get you there. Being self sufficient is a big job and it does not happen overnight. Having a list to keep you on track is very helpful and makes planning for future purchases easier. The longer your planning horizon is the more likely you will be able to work in the larger purchases to fulfill your dreams. Planning is always the first step to doing. So, what will you do this year to move toward a more self sufficient lifestyle?

With the realization that our production and distribution systems may someday fail, many people are storing food supplies to insure they can feed their families in the future. With the financial distress many are faced with, the storage of less than healthy foods is necessary for some. In addition to providing needed energy it is also imperative that your food supplies provide the necessary vitamins and minerals needed to stay healthy long term.
A vitamin C (ascorbic acid) deficiency will cause scurvy. In 6 weeks or less of eating a ration containing no vitamin C, the first symptoms of scurvy would appear: swollen and bleeding gums. This would be followed by weakness, then large bruises, hemorrhages, and wounds that will not heal. Eventually death from hemorrhages and heart failure would result.
This disease would be one of the first to afflict people having only grain and/or beans and lacking the know how to sprout them to provide enough vitamin C. One good way to prevent scurvy is to eat sprouted seeds, not just the sprouts. The Chinese have prevented scurvy during the long winters in northern China for centuries by consuming sprouted beans. Sprouting seeds also increases their content of riboflavin, niacin and folic acid. Sprouting does not increase the protein content or protein quality of seeds, and it will reduce the caloric value of seeds. If a little over an ounce of dry beans or wheat is sprouted until the sprouts are a little bit longer than the seeds, the sprouted seeds will supply 10 to 15 mg of vitamin C.
The easiest way to insure your family has enough vitamin C during long emergencies is to store pure vitamin C which is the crystalline “ascorbic acid” form. Pure vitamin C does not deteriorate like vitamin C tablets. A one kilogram container can be bought at this time for about $24.
An ample daily dose is 25 milligrams, about 0.0009 ounces. Ten grams (about 1/3 ounce) is enough for one person for a whole year when eating unsprouted grains or other foods containing no vitamin C. If you have an ample supply a 50 mg daily dose may be preferred by either sprinkling on food or dissolving in water.
The storage of ascorbic acid is necessary for someone that stores a large amount of grains as an emergency supply of food. Of the many types of emergencies that people may face, a radiological situation may be the worst in may ways. This type of emergency will force you to shelter in locations for long durations where things such as water and sunlight or grow lights may be in short supply.
There is a product on the market now called Liposomal C which is a mega dose of vitamin C in a form the body can absorb. Normally a large intake of vitamin C into a persons system will get discharged before most of it can be absorbed by cells but this new product claims to solve that problem. Mega doses of vitamin C are reported to cure many illnesses and even repair radiation damage. An article on Liposomal C can be found here for more information. http://beforeitsnews.com/health/2013/12/life-saving-mega-dose-iv-vitamin-c-can-be-achieved-orally-now-2517326.html
The ongoing situation with Fukushima and the ever present danger of a nuclear war, financial collapse and food shortages makes the addition of vitamin C to your supply list an inexpensive and logical choice. There are many supplies you may want to have for a serious long term emergency and this is one you should give serious consideration to. With the addition of certain vitamin and mineral supplements, it is possible to store larger volumes of basic foods and still be assured of maintaining your health for the duration of the event.
Additional information just uncovered may be of interest to those who desire healthy sources of vitamin C. About 90% of all vitamin C manufactured now comes from China and is apparently made from GMO corn. Most vitamin E is also made from GMO sources. One source of non synthetic and non GMO vitamin C can be found at Purebulk.com.

When you are confronted with a hostile or dangerous situation, you have three choices. The type of person you are will determine which option you choose. Your response to a crisis is largely determined by how you have lived your life. The influence of family, peers, environment and knowledge will combine to provide you with a unique perspective to react to the situation. How you process all of these inputs will evolve into a belief system for your surroundings. This is why many people react to situations in many different ways.
These inputs will create the comfort zone you are capable of living in. The larger your comfort zone, the more capable you are to respond to a crisis. This comfort zone also determines what your response is to certain dangers. It may be natural for most people to choose flight when they find themselves in a burning building but when these same people are confronted with an armed burglar coming into their home the response will be varied.
When this complicated belief system is used, you must decide the proper response and react. You must decide if the potential loss is worth the potential gain in any action you take. This will determine what form your response takes.
When you apply this to the current situation in America where government tyranny is growing you have three choices to deal with the threat.
Those that surrender are those that are willing to go along to get along. This may work out for a while until these people become a liability to the government and then they are eliminated. Those that surrender are usually willing to sell out their neighbors for the prospect of saving themselves and prolonging any hardship.
Those that take to flight are those that are not willing to stand for their beliefs if they in fact have any and want to take the easy way out. The problem with flight is that the problems you are leaving behind may someday find you again. This is true if we are in fact facing a new world order that seeks to control everybody and everything. The ability to leave the current environment to find safety has a definite expiration date when escape is possible. There are many that have prospered in the American system and now feel compelled to flee in order to protect what they have earned. They may feel they owe America nothing or they may be repositioning themselves to help from outside the nation when the time comes. Only time will tell what their true intentions are.
Those that are prone to flight to escape hardship have a tendency to be people that want a lot out of life but do not want to endure any suffering. They want all of the rewards without the cost. Their mentality is such that self preservation at all costs is more important than their beliefs. This is not the same as someone who merely repositions themselves to better their defensive position to fight perceived danger.
Those that are determined to fight are those that have deep beliefs and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to defend what they believe. These types typically have a large comfort zone and are willing to take many chances to achieve their goals. While some flight may be necessary at times they will always be ready to reenter the fight when they determine it is advantageous. When the decision to fight is reached it is because some type of tipping point is reached where they are not willing to make any more concessions to their belief system.
In the situation Americans now find themselves in, they must now ask, what are they willing to fight for and what is their tipping point. If they choose flight then that window is rapidly closing. For those willing to go along to get along they must decide what they are willing to betray to get by. For those that choose to fight when the time comes they must determine what form the fighting will take and arm themselves accordingly while they can. Now is the time to determine what your comfort zone is and if it should be expanded. Now is the time to determine what you will do and when you will do it. Now is the time to determine what you stand for.
Far better it is to dare mighty things, than to take rank with those poor timid spirits that know neither victory nor defeat.

The increase in human and animal populations on Earth increases the likelihood of a severe pandemic coming about naturally. The experimentation by many nations with biological agents increases the likelihood of such an event happening either by accident or design. When a new outbreak occurs most people look toward the government to contain the disaster and save the people. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how noble the government is. Today it is unfortunate that the government is so intertwined with corporations that the best interest of the people is often set aside for the best interest of business. Because of this it is beneficial for people to have their own defense plan to deal with an outbreak should one occur.
One of the most effective elements at our disposal is silver. The dispersion of silver atoms in distilled water creates a very effective medicinal that has been used for decades to control many lethal pathogens. Until pharmaceuticals became widely produced in the 1940’s colloidal silver was the weapon of choice for numerous conditions. The rise of resistant diseases today has led many health professionals to reexamine the usefulness of silver.
It is used today in topical ointments, colloidal mixtures and even in threads in clothing to destroy body odor causing bacteria. Silver is truly a gift from nature. The reluctance by the pharmaceutical industry to embrace colloidal silver is a matter of profits. It has been declared a non medical substance and is widely available to the public. As a result it is not profitable for corporations and as such they try to ignore its results in favor of designer drugs they can patent and control.
The use of colloidal silver, natural honey, apple cider vinegar and garlic to name a few natural substances, can make all the difference in your health when the next nasty bug calls. The ability to create your own defenses against a future threat gives you power over your life instead of handing your future over to individuals whose motives may be suspect.
The government cannot be relied on to keep you healthy based on the corporate control of many facets of our system. You do not want to become victim to any future government machinations that may prove terminal to you or your family. The ability of the government to control who gets vaccinations when a new virus hits provides them the opportunity to round up any dissenters in an easy way.
For these and other reasons, it is wise for individuals to plan for self help when this type of disaster happens. The ability to grow and produce medicinal drugs and antibiotics allows individuals to avoid dangerous places that others are drawn to in time of need. The acquisition of colloidal silver generators, medicinal seeds and literature to provide the necessary instruction to care for yourself and your family is something that should be located sooner rather than later.
New designer drugs are now becoming less effective to resistant diseases and it is only a matter of time before a new pathogen arises that contemporary drugs cannot handle. We are fast approaching the day when the human species is laid naked before a new killer that will run rampant among the population and the only thing that may save us are the natural defenses provided by nature itself. The pompous nature of man that allows him to believe he is smarter than nature will ultimately cause the death of many millions before humility forces him to accept what we already know. Nature provides a delicate balance in the world and when man interferes with that balance he ultimately injures himself.
